Zoos Need Better Security Right Now

Zoos need to reinforce their security to make sure animals can’t run away or attack people, and so people can’t steal or attack animals.

In the past, there have been lots of animals running away from zoos, attacking humans and other animals, and stealing. If people had reinforced security, it would have costed some money. But it would have saved much more efforts and money if zookeepers would have to spend money replacing animals or use time and money searching for animals and buying tools to find them.

One instance of robbing and pranking in zoos occurred in Krefeld Zoo, Germany. In 2002, a prankster whose name is unknown, opened the gate to a Cheetah exhibit, allowing the Cheetah to escape and eat 10 kangaroos. Also, in July 24, 2015, thieves stole two Golden Lions, and their daughter.

Zoos need high security to prevent animals from running away. For example, according to www.mygreenworld.org: in 2009, a one-year-old “Humboldt Penguin” scaled a 13-foot wall of barbed wire. He was soon found swimming in the rivers off Tokyo bay, and once the penguin was recaptured, it was shocking to see that the penguin living in captivity was in perfectly fine health and was actually able to live in the wild freely. This shows that zoo security is so low that even animals that live in water can escape.

Another reason zoos need to reinforce their security is because children or staff sometimes get eaten by these animals. According to www.undefined Once in 2005, two Siberian Tigers randomly attacked their zookeeper, Robin Silverman. She was reported to be opening the gate, the two tigers chained, and suddenly, they pounced onto her. Therefore, animals can easily attack people, even with security blocking them.

Lastly, zoos need to reinforce their security because animals often get stolen. According to www.undefined, in September 2017, a thief stole a baby joey right out of its mother’s pouch! The mother was injured in the robbery and it is said that the baby died. The thief was never found. In other words, zoos need higher security to prevent robbers from sneaking into exhibits.

People may say that these situations are unusual. But to prove this wrong, his may mean that some zoos don’t even have security. They may just have something like a fence that all adult humans may climb, or a glass wall they think is safe, but can be easily broken by robbers.
It is important for zookeeper to reinforce zoo securities because zoos don’t want to use money to catch animals, pay money to angry families because their family member(s) died or use money to replace animals. Some examples of securities may be metal bars, railings, and platforms.
