U.S. and Iran “Negotiating Peace”
By: Grace Zhang
The U.S and Iran seem to be finally reaching a peace deal after more than 100 days of attacks. The peace deal is expected to come in two parts. The first part is meant to end the fighting, allowing Iran to sell oil again and opening up the Strait of Hormuz.
The Strait of Hormuz is a critical waterway used to transport 20% of the world’s oil and gas. It is currently closed and gas prices are sky-high. Iran is also expected to promise that it will not work towards nuclear weapons during the first part of the plan. Iran has some dangerous uranium stored up and some Western countries are convinced that Iran is making dangerous weapons. Iran claims that it’s nuclear program is only being used to produce power. In the second part of the plan, the details about Iran’s nuclear program are expected to be worked out. We don’t know much about the second part yet, but we do know the second part is predicted to take place over the next 30-60 days.
The U.S. and Iran war has been going on since February 28, 2026 and Trump has been saying “We won the war” since the first week of conflict, but no official peace agreement has been reached yet. Nobody knows how long exactly the battle is going to last. Trump says that the peace deal could be signed within days, but the conflict still remains volatile. According to Al Jazeera News “US President Donald Trump has threatened Iran again, saying “we’re going to be attacking them very hard” after earlier claiming Iran would have to “pay the price” for taking too long to reach a deal.” Other sources such as CNN World are saying similar things such as: ” Trump warns Tehran: President Donald Trump said the US will resume attacks on Iran today, citing slow progress on negotiations for a deal to end the war and the downing of a US Army helicopter.” and, “Talks still ongoing: Trump said all Iran has to do is “start signing a paper” to reach a deal with the US.”
In conclusion, the Iran and U.S. war has been going on for a while and nobody knows for sure when it is going to end. Tensions are rising, and so are gas and oil prices. No official peace deal has been reached, and missiles are being exchanged back and forth. Peace seems near, but nobody knows for sure.
