Wildfire Urgency in Scotland and Western Europe
Warning: Be Aware of outdoor activity
Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) and the Scottish Wildlife Forum (SWF) issued a wildfire warning on April 30, 2026, for Aberdeenshire, Powys and Mourne Mountains communities in Scotland due to hot temperatures.

Firefighters in Aberdeenshire have already been fighting the fire. A large fire appeared near Rosehearty, and it took four fire appliances to stop it. Other places in Europe are also having a lot of trouble dealing with the fires. For example, firefighters in Great Britain have already had fire issues. Natural Resources Wales said a helicopter was needed too. BBC Scotland weather presenter Gillian Smart, said that with very little rain in the forest, the risk of wildfires is high. “The current dry spell – combined with strong sunshine at this time of year, and the brisk winds we’ve had at times this week – makes for a dangerous mix in terms of wildfire risk,” she said. The weather presenter also mentioned that this condition dries out vegetation, especially in the spring.

There is also a high risk to the wildlife. These wildfires can burn down plants and forests, causing habitat loss for wild animals. It makes it harder for them to survive and find food. Also, wildfires can kill animals.

But there are ways we can prevent wildfires as individuals and civilians. For example, campfires and barbecues outside have a high possibility of starting a fire, so always put them out after using them. Be aware of going out on hot, sunny and dry days too.
