World Cup Tickets are Becoming too Expensive
Think about spending years saving up just to watch your favorite team play in the World Cup but then finding out that a single ticket costs more than what you make in a whole month. This is what’s happening for many soccer fans right now. In my opinion, FIFA should decrease the price of World Cup tickets.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is coming to the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. Because of FIFA’s dynamic pricing model, ticket prices can increase a lot as demand grows. Sports should be something everyone can enjoy, but for many people it is getting harder and harder to afford.

The problem comes from FIFA’s decision to use dynamic pricing for World Cup tickets. Basically, if more fans are trying to get tickets for the same match, prices go up. The World Cup’s dynamic-pricing model is similar to the model for airline tickets. FIFA says the extra money helps support soccer development around the world. I understand why they would want more money for that, but it still seems unfair to many fans. A lot of regular fans are being left out because they can’t afford the tickets.

Some Argentinian fans were willing to go quite far, according to the New York Times. One fan said they were going into debt just to buy tickets. Another was thinking about selling their car. Such actions show how overwhelmingly costly these tickets are. The World Cup only happens every four years, so I understand why people want to go so badly. No one should have to choose between paying bills and watching their national team compete. For many people, attending the World Cup is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Some people argue that FIFA’s dynamic pricing system is reasonable. Businesses have always tried to make as much money as possible, and sports organizations need money to run large events. Supporters of dynamic pricing also point out that the extra revenue can help fund soccer development programs around the world. Since the World Cup is one of the most popular sporting events on Earth, they believe ticket prices should reflect the high demand. However, there should probably be some limit. If prices can just keep going up because of demand, then only wealthy fans will be able to attend. Also, regular fans are the people who create the atmosphere in the stadium. Without them, games would not feel the same.
I think sports organizations sometimes forget that fans are not buying a normal product. They are buying an experience that means a lot to them. A fan who has followed their team for ten years is different from someone buying something from a store. The flags, chants, and drums are what gives the stadium its energy. These fans are a huge part of what makes the World Cup special. That’s another reason why prices should not get too high.
The World Cup is supposed to bring people together from all around the world. If ticket prices make that impossible for many fans, FIFA and other sports organizations should really think about what they are doing. They need to remember that without the fans, there would be no World Cup. Therefore, FIFA should work towards lowering the World Cup pricing.
