My Amazing Culture
What is your culture? I have an amazing culture. I was born in America. Both of my parents are Chinese. My dad was born in the south part of China and my mom was born in the north.
In Chinese culture, red is a symbol of good luck. Chinese New Year is a really important holiday in Chinese culture. We eat dumplings and celebrate a good year. We also hang up red fliers and crack fireworks.
Chinese people eat with utensils called chopsticks. These utensils are a symbol of the Chinese culture because they have been used for a very long time. They are a part of our history and our ancestor’s lives. In fact, Chinese migrators migrated to other parts of Asia, such as Japan and Korea, and the use of chopsticks has spread worldwide.
Silk is also a really important part of Chinese culture. A Chinese queen named Lezui was drinking some tea under a tree. Then a silk worm fell into her tea. She tried to get it out but when she did, it turned into a shiny thread. Lezui discovered that this was good for weaving. She had discovered a new invention! This was a legend though. It may not be true. Silk had made China get more powerful since silk was so valuable and tradable. Silk can also make beautiful ancient Chinese clothing.
The Great Wall Of China is a really big and important monument in China. The wall was made to protect China from its enemies. I have been to the Great Wall. When I was standing on it I felt so small compared to the wall. I felt proud.
Dragons are another part of my culture. Chinese people believed that dragons controlled everything. Dragons usually represents courage and wisdom. There are also dragon shows. There are people in dragon costumes that dance like dragons. I saw many of these dragon shows during Chinese New Year. I like the dancing. It was super energetic. The dancers did many cool moves and tricks.
I love my culture. I also want to learn more of other peoples cultures because everyone’s culture is interesting and unique.
