Serena Williams is Coming Back from Retirement to Play Doubles

Serena Williams, a tennis player that won 23 grand slams before she retired in 2022, has announced that she is going to be coming out of retirement to compete in Women’s Doubles at London’s Queen’s Club next week. Williams said that she feels like Queen’s Club will be a perfect comeback after four years.
As a doubles player, Williams often teamed up with her older sister, Venus Williams. The team won 14 grand slams together, and Serena won 73 singles titles by herself on the WTA tour. Serena won three gold medals in the Olympics for doubles, as well as a gold medal in singles in 2012 with her elder sister. Over the 27 year career, she won the most games by a woman in the Open era and second-highest of all time in the women’s game.
Last year, there were rumors about a return, but Williams said the rumors were false. Then, on June 1, Williams posted a video online that announced she was going to come back to the court to play at London with Canadian player, Victoria Mboko, in the women’s doubles. The doubles matches will be the legend’s first competitive matches in four years. Serena is clearly excited for the moment as she says, “Grass has given me some of the most meaningful moments of my career and I’m excited to be back competing on one of the sport’s most iconic stages.”
