According to Time For Kids, there’s a fourth grader from Tampa, Florida, named Kaela Polkinghorn, who visited a science museum and saw a planetarium show where Pluto was left out the “planet family”, making him cry from way in the back. The image hurt her feelings and broke her heart. She thought Pluto was so cute and wants Pluto to be listed as a planet.
There are many reasons why I believe Pluto is a planet. However, I think the most important reason is Pluto is in accordance with the conditions of being a planet. According to IAU, there’s three conditions that planets should be in accordance with. First, that they are orbiting the sun. Second, that they are large enough in quantity and its own gravity, causing it to be spherical. Third, that they can clear other celestial bodies in the vicinity of one’s own orbit. Pluto is accord with the first two conditions.
Some people will say that Pluto doesn’t accord with the last condition. So Pluto definitely can’t be listed as a planet. However, I want to say that the last condition has a problem in itself. If the third condition is a qualified condition, then Mercury’s position can raise doubts because Mercury didn’t clear its own orbit. Technically, the sun helps Mercury do it. So, we can’t use the last rule to deny that Pluto can be listed as a planet.
