The Best Animal Ever
If I were an animal, I would be a falcon. Falcons, hawks, kites, and eagles are raptors. Falcons are also called birds of prey.
One kind of falcon is the peregrine falcon. The raptor’s scientific name is Falco peregrinus. It is the fastest bird and land animal on Earth when diving down from the air. One kind of hawk is called the Harris’s Hawk. Harris’s Hawks have a trick called back stacking where they stack on each other’s backs to gain height and watch for prey and predators. They are also the only raptors that hunt in a collaborative cast of birds.
Falcons live almost everywhere, one of the world’s most widespread birds, while Harris’s Hawks live in the southwestern US.
First of all, Falcons are the best animal because they can fly. You can see beautiful views and sites high in the sky. They are better than dogs because if you were a dog, you would not see so many amazing things. When you’re flying, you can see the situation around and below you so you know what’s going on.
Another reason is that they stoop, or fly really fast. You can avoid predators flying and catch prey by crashing into them and then killing them. This is how falcons hunt and catch animals like birds. They can dive at up to 240 miles per hour! Peregrine falcons can also dive from up to 0.62 miles in the air.
Being a falcon means you’re fast, admirable, and agile.
Also, being a falcon is better than being a hawk because a peregrine falcon attacks in the air beak-first; however, a hawk attacks from the air to the ground feet-first. It’s easier to crash into your prey and break their bones in the air like a falcon than to grab them with your talons and swooping like the hawk does. You have to aim at just the right spot or you won’t be successful. But you don’t really have to aim to slam, so you just bump them with high speed.
Now let’s imagine I am a falcon:
I see a red-tailed hawk that’s perching on top of a log. The bigger hawk doesn’t see me, and a puny falcon, 1000 feet on top, is concentrating on searching for food. The hawk never looks up. I decide it’s going to be my dinner. Laser Focus Time! I fly like a rocket. The poor hawk does not know what hit and is very confused. I chop one of the red tailed hawk’s bones in half. I hit a direct hit again and it falls to the ground. Later I bring some of the meat back to my starving chicks.
