Recently, Canadian pop star Justin Bieber was diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt

Syndrome. This rare neurological condition caused the star to postpone three shows on his

2022 Justice World Tour. So, what is Ramsay Hunt Syndrome?

Ramsay Hunt Syndrome is caused by the virus for chickenpox. The virus remains

dormant in the body after the person has recovered and usually causes no symptoms or illness. However, tense emotional stress and a weakened immune system sometimes reactivate the virus, resulting in a painful rash and blisters, which last for three to five weeks.

For about five in 100,000, the virus reactivates in people’s facial nerves, causing swelling

and irritation. The thin bones that control facial movement and expressions become extremely

dense from Ramsay Hunt syndrome, which causes paralysis on one side of the face. That’s why half of Justin Bieber’s face is not moving during his recent Instagram live.

Ramsay Hunt syndrome can be cured, and early diagnosis and treatment are key to a full

recovery. Bieber, who’s receiving the best medical care available, is optimistic. We hope Justin Bieber makes a quick and full recovery!
