Do you think animals should be in zoos? There have been many debates about animals and zoos, and I believe animals should not be in zoos for a few significant reasons. Zoos are like prisons for animals because they are confined. Scientists have also discovered that zoos can cause illnesses in animals and cause them to become wild.

Firstly, zoos are like prisons. The zoos maintain animals in confined quarters without being able to see other animals, which can make them crazy. The animals may also suffer from boredom.

Moreover, animals should not be in zoos because zookeepers and visitors can get hurt. Since 1990 there have been at least 300 incidents involving big cats, and records show nearly 15 adults have lost their lives. There have been more than 50 other people who have lost their limbs or suffered other injuries after being mauled, thus showing the danger of zoos.

Finally, animals are best kept in the wild because when kept in zoos, they can develop an illness called “zoochosis” from being removed from their natural habitat. Animals with this disease pace back and forth, twist their necks, bob their heads up and down, turn in never-ending circles, and even tear holes in their skin.

In conclusion, zoos are a prison for animals. Due to the history of animals suffering from physical and mental illnesses, I believe that zoos should transition away from living animals.

“Considering the potential drawbacks, I don’t believe zoos should have animals.
