“I can’t wait for the Feather Destiny!” Jay exclaimed in delight. “I’m going to be the next 5 Feathered phoenix!”
Jay flapped around the room, whirling his fiery wings, pretending to attack an invisible enemy.
“You wish,” snorted Rohan, “You’re going to get a 1 Feather Destiny, the worst of them all. You can’t even fight well. I’m going to get the 5 Feather Destiny.”
Jay took a very clumsy flying leap at Rohan, somehow managing to pin him to the bottom of their hollow ash tree. Ash trees didn’t burn so they were suited for phoenixes like them. “Who says I can’t fight?” Jay asked Rohan.
“Well Rohan, we all know having two 5 Feathered Phoenix is impossible,” said Enya, “Only our leader is a 5 Feathered Phoenix. Cyra earned her 5 Feathers. That’s why she’s the leader. Anyways, that’ll be stupid.”
“Why is that?” asked Jay who, looking curious for once, allowed Rohan to kick him off.
Enya laughed, “Because we can’t have two 5 Feathered phoenixes at once. It’s like only one of them could be worthy. They would have to fight to the death, or one would they get exiled. Cyra challenged our previous leader, Icarus, who got exiled out of the clan. He’s probably still alive somewhere.”
“Also, when-” started Enya. She was suddenly interrupted by a sudden loud, sudden screech that filled the giant, hollow tree.
“Did you guys hear that? It must be Cyra!” yelped Jay, “It’s starting, The Feather Destiny!”

“Jay Phoenix, please come up and sip the Nectar,” Cyra murmured softly as she gestured towards the small pond of glowing liquid. Cyra was their leader and the tips of her 5 Feathers were completely pure blue. Jay was bursting with excitement, but he knew that he couldn’t make a sound, or else it would be rude to Cyra and would even threaten to break the ancient ritual of receiving his first Feathers.
Quickly, he said a prayer, and took a sip of the Nectar.
Flaming golden beams of light surrounded him and when they were gone, there were 2 golden feathers on his head, glazed with dark blue at the ends.
“YES! 2 Feathers!” yelled Jay, his 2 golden feathers were bobbing up and down, “I’m a pupil now!‘
Cyra looked at him with a hint of amusement.
She then called Enya up. She too, like Jay, got surrounded by golden beams of light and eventually got a 2 Feather Destiny.
Then, she called Rohan up. He was shivering slightly but still made it to the front. He looked really shy. He bowed low and took a small sip of the Nectar and then stood back.
Just like Jay, golden beams formed around him, but instead of surrounding him, they burst away from him like a bubble popping. There were 6 black Feathers on his best friend’s head. Rohan opened his eyes and gasped as he saw 6 pure black feathers sitting on his head.
There were sudden gasps from the older phoenix, but none were as surprised as Cyra.
“Impossible!” she whispered with horror, as she stared at Rohan in both amazement and panic.
She turned to the Imperial Phoenixes and quickly, but quietly hissed instructions to them.
They each reached an area around the camp and raised their wings high. Suddenly, red flames appeared around the entire camp like a protective bubble and then disappeared.
“They’re securing the barrier around our camp,” Enya whispered, as the Imperial Phoenixes flew off toward Cyra’s den.
Then Crya swept her icy blue eyes to the rest of the phoenixes and screeched in her soft, but commanding voice, “No one is to leave the camp!”
Then she flew off to catch up with the Imperial phoenixes.
“What’s going on?” Rohan whimpered.
One of the elders stepped forward and answered, “Rohan is a Demon.”
