Typhoon Dolphin Hit This Year

Over one million people in Eastern China have been forced to leave their homes for safety after a powerful storm named Typhoon Dolphin hit the area on Sunday. Before arriving in China, Typhoon Dolphin also dumped heavy rain on the Philippines, northern Taiwan, and parts of Japan, leaving forcing thousands of people to move stay into emergency shelters. The massive storm then reached Zhejiang province in China, with pouring rain and fierce winds blowing at 94 miles per hour. The dangerous weather caused major travel problems, forcing workers to cancel nearly 1,000 flights in Shanghai. The storm also caused popular amusement parks like Disneyland and Legoland to close.

The storm has officially been downgraded from a typhoon to a weaker tropical storm. Political leaders warn that heavy downpours, serious flooding, and dangerous mudslides could still happen. While the storm’s winds are slowing down, families and emergency workers must continue to work together to stay safe from the heavy rains and flooding that will last for several more days.
