Kevin looked out through his window at the New York skyline. The view was incredible. Kevin hadn’t seen anything like it before. He was mesmerized by the scenery. The bustling atmosphere down below contrasted the calm and relaxed mood up above. Although he had lived here for a year already, the city was never less interesting to him. He had explored just about every nook and cranny.
“Kevin! Come and eat breakfast! You’re going to be late for school!” Kevin’s mother called. Kevin looked at his watch and swiftly ran to the kitchen to eat his breakfast. He quickly shoved some toast in his mouth and ran out the door. On the way to school, he ran into his friend Billy. They had been friends with each other since the semester started. Kevin hoped they would stay friends over the summer. Kevin listened to the buzzing of the city. An endless honking of car horns. It was music to his ears. Kevin felt the June sun pouring onto his face. He closed his eyes and felt a rain drop land on his nose. He blinked his eyes open.
“Hey Bill, we should run.” Kevin grinned. They sprinted together to school. By the time they got into the school, they both were soaked. Kevin laughed as Billy shook his blond wet hair.
“Aw man! I totally beat you!” Kevin exclaimed.
“Nuh, uh! I won!” Billy panted, just as the first bell rang.
“I gotta dip, I’ll see you at lunch!” Kevin pointed in the direction of his first class.
“Alright!” Billy ran off to his first class. As Kevin sat down in his chair, he thought to himself. I will never tire of this.
“Brianna?” The teacher called.
“Here!”
“Billy?”
“Here Ms. Jass!” Billy exclaimed.
“Good. Now as the school year is ending, we all know that there is much less academic work.” Ms. Jass paused. “And now, I am pleased to announce the final project of the year!” The class roared with cheers. Ms. Jass was known to give the most work out of all the science teachers. The prospect of the final project had smiles all around the room.
“This project will not be too challenging if you listen to me, and do all the homework as thoroughly as possible. The catch? You have to work with someone that you have not worked with this entire year.” Billy shot his friend Joe a look. Joe furrowed his eyebrows together, his emerald eyes contrasting his brown hair. They had worked together the whole year. Ms. Jass waited until the complains and groans quieted down. “If you all don’t want to pick, I will pick for you.” There was a murmur in the room before everyone started pairing up with different people.
“Now, let’s begin the lesson.”
The bell rang and Billy waited behind for Joe.
“I wish I could work with you again.” Billy frowned.
“It’s mutual.” Joe gave him a grin. “Let’s go to lunch.” As they were walking to lunch Billy saw Kevin and waved him over.
“Hey Kev, what’s up! How were your morning classes?” Billy asked.
“They were so boring but fun at the same time. I’m really going to miss Mr. Oxlong.” Kevin sighed, his brown hair swooping over his hazel eyes.
“Definitely one of the best teachers.” Joe agreed as they got in the lunch line. “I was going to arrange an end of school year party, do you guys want to come?” Joe asked.
“I’m down!” Billy said.
“Me too!” Kevin declared.
“Great, when are you guys free?” Joe asked.
“Anytime!” Kevin exclaimed.
“Same.” Billy grinned.
“I can’t wait!” Joe whooped.
