On Friday, May 30, 2025, Taylor Swift announced she is the owner of all the music she has ever made. She wrote a lengthy letter to her fans, showing her joy and relief to them. “All of the music I've ever made... now belongs... to me,” Swift wrote to her fans.

Back in 2019, Scott Borchetta was the CEO of the Big Machine Label Group, which was Swift's record label for her first 6 albums. Borchetta sold Swift's first 6 albums to Ithaca Holdings (owned by Scooter Braun)without Swift knowing nor agreeing. These master recordings cost over $300 million dollars. Later, Braun sold the master recordings to Shamrock Holdings for over $360 million. "All the times I was thiiiiiiiiiiiiis close, reaching out for it, only for it to fall through," Swift wrote.

Because Shamrock Holdings had full control over her songs, Swift wasn't in charge of her own music, although they were her songs. In response to trying to get her music back, Swift made re-recordings and named them "Taylor's Version". But now, she has bought back all of her albums.

“To say this is my greatest dream come true is actually being pretty reserved about it. To my fans, you know how important this has been to me — so much so that I meticulously re-recorded and released 4 of my albums, calling them Taylor’s Version. The passionate support you showed those albums and the success story you turned The Eras Tour into is why I was able to buy back my music. I can’t thank you enough for helping to reunite me with this art that I have dedicated my life to, but have never owned until now," Swift said to her fans.

Taylor Swift's songs were sold in 2019, but has since worked hard to earn the right to own them. After 6 years of pursuing the ownership of her recordings, she of ALL her music.
