Stranger Things is an original Netflix drama television series created by the Duffer Brothers. The series consists of four seasons, each coming out in 2016, 2017, 2019, and 2022. I give Stranger Things a five out of five.

The Netflix series is mainly described as a “super unique plot” and “a thrill to watch” on rottentomatoes.com. In Season One, the show is mainly focused around a group of boys that play Dungeons and Dragons, a popular roleplaying board game, in Hawkins, Indiana. In the beginning, the show displays Will, a boy going home after finishing D&D. Will is taken by an abnormal creature after running to his backyard shed, calling out for help when he realizes that his mother and brother aren’t home from working overtime. Will is deemed as a missing child the next day, as search parties go out to try to find him the following week.

The show also introduces Eleven, a supernatural girl who was taken from her mother from birth, now a run-away test subject in a lab. The D&D gang find Eleven and then start to look for Will with her help, using radio signals and flickering lights to detect paranormal creatures.

One key element in Stranger Things is the character development. Take Steve Harrington for example, a teenager later introduced as Mike’s, a boy in the D&D gang, sister’s boyfriend. He is first shown as an arrogant bully in Hawkins High School, who only went to parties and failed all his classes. Then, throughout the show, Steve starts to realize his behavior when he meets a Demogorgon, a creature from the Upside Down, basically an alternate dimension of the world. Steve, Nancy, and Will’s brother, Jonathan, lead the Demogorgon into a trap and kill it with fire. Steve is humbled by the experience, and starts to fight the obstacles from the Upside Down and makes friends with the kids.

Even in Season 3, Steve unlocked his “inner goof” and even made a handshake with his iconic partner, Dustin, also a boy in the D&D group. Steve’s new behavior came at a cost – he lost his role as the Hawkins High School king. However, millions of fans across the world now love Steve. “Steve did it because deep down, he was a good guy. He wanted to do the right thing because that’s the real Steve Harrington,” commented an anonymous person on Reddit.

Another key element in Stranger Things is the foreshadowing. For example, when Vecna, the villain in Season 4, attacks a victim, there is always a grandfather clock that chimes three times. After that, all you can do is prepare for another death.

Many Stranger Things fans create theories and predictions about the upcoming season using clues in the story. In Season 2, Eleven runs away to another city and meets Kali, in other words, 008, another lost test subject. After the episode, Eleven goes back to Hawkins, leaving the scene with a cliffhanger. Many fans suspect how Kali would appear in Season 5, after all, the Duffer Brothers would never film an episode only for the potential of the new characters to be wasted.

“I don’t think for one second that the Duffer brothers have left that as a plot hole. They don’t make any mistakes at all…everything truly happens for a reason in the show, right down to the minute details, so I really doubt that plot line will be left untouched,” writes Lisa from
imbd.com.

Stranger Things is one of the most incredible shows on Netflix that I have watched. From the unique plot to the incredible storylines, the Netflix show reached one billion hours of watch-time and all four seasons of Stranger Things were in the Top 5 most watched shows on Netflix. If you have any time to spare, go watch Stranger Things!
