As she skipped along the trail, her chocolate brown curls bouncing, she hummed the birdsong she heard this morning when she woke. Her favorite red cloak fluttered behind her. The white fur-like material at the rim of her hood framed her brown curls, which fell to her waist outside the cloak. Her hair fell in waves around her face, it was tanned from being outside all summer long, and her eyes were violet — a pure, bright violet that gleamed like stars. A grin appeared on her tiny mouth when she saw the little patch of berries ranging from golden yellow to scarlet. The color was the same as the salmonberry, but the salmonberries grew into the shape of raspberries, whereas these grew like tiny, puffy, round clouds. A rare patch of cloudberries, and a rare treat.

She picked them all, delighted, and placed them carefully one by one in her little wicker basket. Mother had asked her to pick berries this morning, so she went off dutifully to the best trail, where a lot of berries grew. Humming some more, she ate a cloudberry. A bird call sounded farther off. Luna followed the sound, hoping to maybe find some honeyberries. She got lucky, there were two bushes of honeyberries. Luna picked four handfuls and dropped them in the basket. She skipped back home, happy with her berries.

Back home, Mother made Luna pancakes with extra maple syrup and added a few honeyberries on top. Luna had also picked the honeyberries herself. They looked like stretched out blueberries. They had a great breakfast and ate rhubarb stalks from their own garden that Mother picked last week. Then they went off to the farmers’ market to sell their wild roses. They didn’t manage to sell all of them, but Luna, she was in charge of the wild rose stall, managed to sell at least half of them. Mother was off looking at the other stalls for something delicious to cook for lunch, or dinner.

They came back and took a break. Mother had bought some dog food for Pansy, their dog, and some more fruits vegetables, and meat. Mother hated supermarkets, she always claimed that nothing there was fresh or organic. Luna played Fetch with Pansy and took her on a walk. She was an Alaskan Klee Kai, and quite energetic. Luna grinned; this has been a great day so far, and she hadn’t even ate lunch!
