When I went to the National Aviary in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, I had lots of fun. The National

Aviary is like a bird zoo. I got to see lots of birds that lived in different habitats. I saw bald

eagles, African penguins, owls, African gray parrots, American flamingos, mallards, toucans,

pelicans, canaries, vultures, hawks, finches, and Victoria crowned pigeons. In the National

Aviary, there were many rooms. Some rooms had single species like the bald eagle, owls,

hawks, and African penguins. Other rooms had different species in a habitat like the rainforest

room.

In the rainforest room, there were lots of colorful birds. Some birds that I liked were the African gray parrot, American flamingos, mallets, and the Victoria crowned pigeons. The rainforest room had lots of plants and decorations to make it actually feel like a rainforest. There were trees, a small waterfall, a pond, and mist to make it seem like it was raining. The rainforest room was also very humid like a real rainforest.

One of my favorite parts of the National Aviary was the African penguin room. In the African

penguin room, there were glass walls so you could see the penguins on the land and in the

water. My favorite part there was the tunnels. Under the penguin habitat, there were tunnels you could crawl through. In some parts of the tunnel, there was a glass box where you could stick your head into and see the penguins up close. When I went in, there were two penguins

standing really close to the glass so I saw two African penguins up close.

The next room we went to was the canary and finch room. The canary and finch room wasn’t a

big room because the birds were small. In the room, they had trees, nests, and a bird feeder. I

got to see the birds eat and fly around. Sometimes, a bird would fly around over my head and I thought it was really fun.

The last room that I visited was a room where you could learn about the birds. There were lots

of pictures of the birds around the room. There was also a TV that was playing a video

explaining what types of birds there were, what habitats there were, and how they take care of them. I had lots of fun at the National Aviary.
