As a kid, sometimes I think life is boring, hard, and has no meaning. When my mom signed me up for random activities, I occasionally found them fun, but never really wanted to do them. But when my mom signed me up for tennis I fell in love with the sport.
I have many hobbies; ice skating, coding, and playing piano. I didn’t really want to do them. Playing tennis is literally what I do during my free time and I never get bored of it. Of course, I also like to challenge my brain while coding and playing the piano just for fun. However, I never really dreamed of working with computers or being a pianist. The only thing I really do dream of is becoming the best in the world in tennis; maybe winning a tournament when I’m 13. These things I hope to achieve in my life, and will also give me so much happiness.
I have a tennis buddy, Angela. Angela was the person who actually introduced me to tennis, and she is also my best friend, who I literally see everyday. If I didn’t have Angela as a friend, I wouldn’t have played tennis. I’m so grateful that I met her. Tennis is literally my whole life and I love playing it with her.
I’m obsessed with playing tennis, but also with watching it. The 2021 US Open was my first taste of watching the sport. That day, we were in Ohiopyle and my friend’s parents were watching the US open. I didn’t really care about it until I heard that both teenagers were in the semifinal. Then, I couldn’t look away. Emma Raducanu and Leylah Fernandez were in the final for the US Open. Emma really inspired me to work even harder while playing. Emma was a qualifier who played multiple rounds to get into the final. While doing that she also didn’t drop a set. Leylah Fernandez had to beat many top 10 players to reach the
final. These achievements would be impressive for anyone, but especially for teenagers. Emma ended up winning and becoming the champion.
When she won she was in total shock and she was extremely proud of the work she had put in to be a champion. Her US Open run was a fairytale dream come true. Leylah also worked so hard and just landed short of being the champion, and I still love watching her too. Now this season, I think Leylah has been more consistent and Emma just has had too many injuries this season. These two players are the people I love watching and someday I hope to be like them.
As an athletic person who could do any sport, tennis just came right into my life and I have loved playing it since I was 5 or 6. I hope to be a successful player and love what I do.
