What would you if you were being treated like a play dog, just following orders for someone, and doing their dirty work. Would you rebel against them to show them how you feel about it? In today’s case the same thing happened with a group of mercenaries working for Russia who thought they were being treated unfairly and rebelled.

On Friday, a group of mercenaries led by Yevgeny Prigozhin in the Wagner’s association, a group working for Russia to fight against Ukraine, suddenly threatened to rebel and attack the country. Mr. Prigozhin was working with Mr. Putin, who was in command of the Russian military, and hired the Wagner organization to fight for them. This started out great for them, but slowly tension grew between them. Mr. Putin didn’t like that Mr. Prigozhin had so much power since they aren’t fully part of Russia–They are just hired to fight for Russia. Mr. Prigozhin criticized a lot of the actions of the Russian military leaders as if he was in charge.

Recently, Russia passed a law that the mercenaries from the Wagner’s association now had to join the Russian military as regular soldiers. Mr. Prigozhin really disliked and disapproved of this law mostly because he would lose control of his forces.

The next Friday, Mr. Prigozhin accused Mr. Putin that one of his soldiers attacked a Wagner soldier and turned his 25,000 men away from the fighting against Ukraine in rebellion and sent them back to Russia. Wagnar soldiers soon took over the city of Rostov-on-Don and all the military bases there, which weakened Russia deeply.

On Saturday, Mr. Prigozhin demanded that Russia get rid of its top two military leaders or his forces would march into Russia’s capital, Moscow. Mr. Putin accused him of treason and Mr. Prigozhin’s forces began their march towards Moscow. Mr. Putin’s forces tried to delay them by breaking important roads, but Wagnar’s forces still reached 120 kilometers away from the capital.

NewsForKids.net explains that, “On Saturday night, Alexander Lukashenko, the president of Belarus, announced that he had reached a deal with the two sides. Wagner’s soldiers would turn around and go back to Ukraine. In exchange, none of them would be punished. Wagner soldiers who hadn’t rebelled would be able to join Russia’s military. Mr. Prigozhin had agreed to go live in Belarus.” Alexander Lukashenko did his best and succeeded in making peace.

All in all, Mr. Prigozhin seemed to have been defeated and resigned, but Mr. Putin now also looked very weak. He has led Russia’s military for 24 years, always known as a powerful Russian leader, and now he is forgiving people and struggling to maintain control. Many people think that this rebellion could help Ukraine in this war because it greatly weakened the spirit of the Russian forces.
