ROAR!
The sound of the dragon echoed in Mary’s ears. Finn, her green lizard, whimpered and cowered in her hoodie. The ground shook as the dragon landed. Mary thought back to the tablet she had found in the mysterious attic of her house. It included this dragon. The tablet had said it had scales like obsidian and breathed magic. The tablet had also said that her village was caught in the middle of a battle. One between Science and Magic. Mary wished she had swiped one of those fancy laser guns the guards always carried when they searched the woods. Her village’s leader had told her that the Science Compound, or the unbelievers, used futuristic weapons. They made you wear caps that could give you amnesia in a second if you were disobedient.
ROAR!
The sound was closer now, shaking Mary out of her flashback. Turning around, she saw two large yellow eyes the size of basketballs. A clawed reptilian had reached out and grabbed her around the waist.
Suddenly, the dragon stiffened, its eyes wide in surprise. A dart, the tip swirling with purple particles, had hit the black scales of the dragon. The dragon fell backward, and Mary plummeted towards the earth.
