Before Wimbledon, Nick Kyrgios was ranked 144. He entered the tournament seedless. However, he has made his way up, defeating Cristian Garrin (4-6 3-6 6-7), Brandon Nakashima (6-4 4-6 6-7 6-3 2-6), Filip Krajinovic, and Sasha Tistipas (7-6 4-6 3-6 6-7). He plays with a black hat, disregarding the all-white dress code. Kyrios is undoubtably a superstar, but is a double-edged sword for the game as a whole.

He is set to play Novak Djokovic in the finals, who is more composed and calmer than the explosive and cocky Kyrgios. Kyrios has been said to be carried by his talent, as his temper may get the best of him and the resultant outbursts bring warnings, fines, punishments, and criticism from the press and viewers.

Kyrgios, however, is not bothered. “Everywhere I go I’m seeing full stadiums,” he says. “The media loves to write that I am bad for the sport, but clearly not.”

Fans saw one of his tantrums during his game against Tistipas, when Kyrgios berated the Chair umpire for not defaulting Tistipas when he shot the ball into the stadiums in anger after losing a close point.

“Unscripted. Unfiltered. Unmissable,” wrote kliros in a tweet after the match.
