In the U.S., states as far north as Minnesota and Wisconsin are being affected by historically high temperatures. Many places reached temperatures as high as 110 degrees. Similar 100-degree heat is also occurring in countries in Europe and South Asia. The high heat is dangerous because people can get hyperthermia and heat strokes. The National Weather Service (NWS) advises people to stay inside and not come out unless necessary during intense heat waves. Governments have set up cooling centers in an attempt to help people cope with the heat.
