I wandered, feeling as surly as the Grinch,
When suddenly I saw an angelic goldfinch.
It was swooping and looping through the bright cerulean sky,
It was fleeting; gone in the blink of an eye.
All around, I heard the sound of birds taking flight,
And the sun was an effervescent beacon of light.
I could not help but feel at ease in such cheerful company.
I gazed and gazed, and then I thought,
About the peace this unconfined little bird had brought.
And now, when on my couch I lie, in a despondent or somber mood,
That golden bird of mine flashes before my eyes to comfort me in solitude.
