Fish farming is where we get most of our fish now. People put fish in tanks, grow them and then sell them. Some farmers put chemicals inside their food so the fish will grow faster and bigger, but some of these chemicals are not safe for humans.
Because of the reliability and nutritiousness of farm raised fish, I believe that fish farms are a great choice. Fish are very nutritious, and by producing most of our fish in farms, we will reduce the overfishing of wild fish. This also means that we can stop fish from going extinct and from letting them escape over populating nearby fish.
In the US, we mostly get our fish from Asian fish farms, but the problem is that the people in Asia can use chemicals that are not allowed in the States which is why some people don’t support it. These chemicals can stay in the fishes and can be transferred to the consumer. Whenever these chemicals enter our bodies, we can get sick. There are also very few people who check whether these chemicals are safe to be consumed by people in the U.S. I, however, believe that these chemical additives can be reduced by adding more regulations and by increasing the number of people who monitor the presence of chemicals in fish that is imported to the US.
Besides the chemical additives, fish is still a very nutritious food that contains tons of potassium, calcium, and minerals. It is therefore still good to eat. It also might help the fight against world hunger. Fish farming is more reliable than hunting for wild fish – when hunting for fish, you can never be certain how many you will catch. If you’re unlucky, you can go for days without food. Fish farming puts fish in big tanks and lets the workers control how many fish are in each tank, making it easier to feed them.
