Famous People Should Still Have Privacy
In August 2026, Ariana Grande announced that she was going to take a break from being in the public eye after her tour ends. She stated that one of the reasons was the “endless, ongoing public scrutiny” she has been getting recently. For years, people have been talking about her appearance, especially her weight, online. I think celebrities should still have privacy even if they are famous.
Being famous means more people know who you are, but it should not mean everybody gets to know everything about your life. In 2023, Ariana Grande talked about the comments people made about her weight. She explained that the body people thought was her “healthy” body was actually from an unhealthy time in her life. She also told people to be more careful when commenting on other people’s bodies because they don’t know their stories. This shows how even when fans think they are helping, they could actually be making things worse.
Social media has made it harder for celebrities to have privacy. People can post pictures, videos, and comments about celebrities almost right away. Fans can see paparazzi pictures, videos from concerts, and other updates online. Because of this, celebrities can feel like people are always watching them. The New York Times article says that the conversations about Grande’s appearance became a mix of “concern and speculation.” Instead of talking about her music, people started focusing more and more on what she looked like.
Some people argue that fans should be able to comment on celebrities’ bodies and lifestyles if they are worried about them. I understand why people might feel that way. Fans can care about celebrities and want them to be healthy. However, I don’t think that means they should comment on celebrities’ bodies online. You can care about someone’s health without talking about their appearance. Also, fans don’t actually know everything that is happening in a celebrity’s personal life.
Celebrities also should not have to explain every choice they make. Ariana Grande explained why she wanted to take a break, but she shouldn’t have to share every private detail of her life just to get people to understand her decision.
Fans should support celebrities by respecting their boundaries and refraining from judging their appearance. We should focus more on their music, movies, and other work instead of their bodies. Being famous makes someone more well-known, but it does not mean they belong to the public. We should all think before posting something about another person because we never know how it might affect them.
