A young boy sits by a window, holding a small electronic fan in front of him. It does nothing but blow the hot air in his face. Hearing a bell ringing, he ambles down the stairs for lunch. He sighs when he sees cold sandwiches on the table. He takes one and halfheartedly nibbles a corner. Life has been miserable lately, but it will all be worth it; it will end; and the the heat will stop too.

But, for now, his family, like thousands of others across the nation, is boycotting anything that contributes to the warming earth. Unfortunately, this means no cooking, no air conditioning, and not much water. These days, its even hard to go shopping, particularly grocery shopping, because of the plastic bags made by resources that were mined by heavy machinery. Life will be better. It will all end. All we need to do is persist. That is how everyone keeps their spirits up. Its true, though. On the newspapers, every day, there are articles about power plants shutting down or the government complaining about the ruined economy. This is what the young boy is thinking about now. And he is glad that he is doing this, glad for his misery, because it is all for a good cause, and he knows that however small a difference he is making, he is making a difference, and it is all worth it.
