My heart’s in my throat as I stare at the stone wall before me. My mother looked around to ensure my siblings and I hadn’t run off.

“Now, pay attention. The way to get to Diagon Alley is three up and two across,” she said while tapping the sections. The wall shifted and revealed a street with shops on the sides.

“Whoa!” I said, awed,

“Ladies and Gentlemen, we are about to witness a witch’s first time in Diagon Alley!” Rodolphus, my brother, said, smirking at me.

“Shut up!” I muttered, nudging him.

He laughed and ruffled my hair. And told us, “I’m meeting up with Snape and Greengrass; catch y’all later,”

My mom sighed, “Alright, Audrey, take Amelia to get her wand; here’s six galleons,” My eyes widened, and I started jumping in excitement. “My wand! My very first wand!” As we walked into Ollivanders, I looked around and was shocked at the many boxes around me.

“Ah! Ms. Lestrange, how good it is to see you again! Ash, Unicorn Hair, 12 inches, slightly flexible, wasn’t it?” Ollivander said as he greeted us. Even though he was technically a ‘light’ wizard, most dark families are pretty warm with Ollivander, as he was in the Sacred 28.

My sister smiled. “That’s right.”

“And who is this you’ve brought today?” Ollivander questioned, giving me a warm smile

“This is my sister, Amelia,” Audrey replied.

“Ah. Come forward, Amelia; which hand do you write with?”

“My right’’ I replied nervously.

Ollivander hummed as a measuring tape measured my arm magically. He took out a box and told me to give it a wave. I took it in my hands and flicked it slightly. A flower vase nearby shattered, and I quickly put the wand down. “Hmm,” Olivander said, shuffling around in the back of the shop. He took out another wand, but as he gave it to me, he withdrew his hand. “No, that can’t be it.”

After a while, he took a wand down from a shelf and gave it to me.

“Give it a wave,” he said; I waved it, and a wand fell from a shelf. Ollivander furrowed his eyebrows and muttered, “I was so sure-” he shook his head. Two wands later, he gave me a wand. I waved it, and a small tornado started in the room. I put it down, thinking it was terrible smiled and said, “I think we found your wand. English Oak, Kelpie hair, 11 ½ inches.” he smiled. “That wand is very powerful. Whether you use it for good or bad is up to you.”

After getting all of our supplies, we headed home, but all I could hear was Olivander’s voice. As I went to bed that night,

That wand is very powerful. Whether you use it for good or bad is up to you.

That wand is very powerful. Whether you use it for good or bad is up to you.

That wand is very powerful. Whether you use it for good or bad is up to you.

I shook my head, hoping I would never have to fight in the upcoming war, but just on the edge of sleep, I knew Voldemort was getting stronger, and I had until my last year at Hogwarts to pick a side to fight in. So I fell asleep, knowing that I would have to pick Voldemort’s side – because he was right.

I stared at the train in front of me, and my mom came over and kissed me on the cheek.

“Now remember, Slytherin is obviously the best, but as long as you don’t get into Gryffindor, I’ll be proud of you.”

“What about Hufflepuff?” I asked, wondering why she would let me be in that house because the traits were Kindness and Forgiveness.

She smiled. “Then everyone will think you’re innocent, and underestimate you, so you can use that to your advantage. Now go! Don’t forget to write!” I waved at her, Audrey took my hand, and we boarded the Hogwarts Express.
