On August 1st, 2023, President Trump was indicted because of events of the 2020 elections. He claimed there had been fraud in the election and he was the rightful president. “So for more than two months following election day on November 3, 2020, the defendant (Mr. Trump) spread lies that there had been fraud in the election and claimedthat he had actually won. These claims were false, and the defendant knew that they were false,” the government attorney said.
Trump’s followers also raided the Capitol Building after Trump made a motivational speech. “I know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol building to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard,” Trump said.
When Mike Pence, the former Vice President, called Trump to wish him a merry Christmas in December, before the election, but, Trump turned the conversation into the election, and wanted Penceto reject the electoral votes the day of the election.
Pence replied: “You know I don’t think I have the authority to change the outcome.”
He was then faced with charges, and they had a quick trial. He is the first US president to be faced with criminal charges.
