Isreal and Iran Continue to Swap Attacks

Despite ceasefires, attacks broke out again in the weekend of June 6th-7th, challenging all peace talks. On Monday, both sides of the conflict in Iran had said that they had stops attacks, but tensions stayed high. U.S. President Donald Trump still says that a peace deal is almost reached, but recent attacks further damage the probability of peace.

Iran says that they will only stop the attacks if Israel stops attacking Hezbollah, a militant group in Lebanon. However, on Sunday, Israel attacked the city of Beirut, where many Hezbollah groups were. Iran responded with more missile strikes. Another militant group, the Houthi in Yemen, also attacked Isreal. The Houthi, like the Hezbollah, are supported by Iran. To calm the attacks down, Trump asked Isreal’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to stop the attacks. However, Isreal continued. Warplanes were still sent to Iran, and one of them destroyed an Iranian chemical plant.

The recent attacks raise concerns that large-scale fighting might break out again. Even though the war has already caused massive problems worldwide, there are now concerns that the Houthis might block the Bab al-Mandab Strait, which will cause oil and gas prices to shoot up even higher.
