Rising Belgium Star Faces Language Divide With Fans
In Belgium, a rising pop star, Pommelien Thijs, is attracting attention from all over the world with her sold-out shows and a continuously increasing number of fans.
There is one problem, though. Her music is not reaching everyone. Within Belgium, Thijs’ music only reaches Dutch-speaking fans. While they can still fill stadiums, many do not realize that there is a language barrier for others who may not speak the language.
There has been an ongoing debate about language barriers in the world of music. Some people embrace it and learn to appreciate the music for its message and instrumentals, while others just try to actively avoid music that is in a different language entirely.
In my opinion, people should admire and cherish the music of other languages. It is a universal bond between us all. If we can accept the music of artists, such as Bad Bunny or various K-Pop groups, we can approve of music from lesser-spoken languages as well.
We must learn to embrace the cultures of others as well as our own. If artists created their music in a dominant language, it would probably reach more people, but it would not be uniquely themselves. Each song created has a bit of the artist in them. Their own style and voice sets them apart from everyone else.
Culture and music have always been a significant part of the global community. Combining them helps people grow, and teaches us to accept each other for who we truly are.
