Origami Folds Found Out by a 14-Year-Old Holds Thousands of Times Its Weight
Miles Wu, a fourteen-year-old, designed a folded piece of paper that could hold thousands of times its weight.

For a science project for the Junior Innovators Contest, he decided to use his favorite activity, origami folding. He decided to find origami patterns that could hold up the most weight. He created fifty-four designs, and one of them could hold up ten thousand times its weight. All of his designs were variants of the Miura-ori fold. The Muira-ori fold could be collapsed, and it could be folded into many different 3-dimensional objects. Japanese astrophysicist Koryo Miura created the Muira-ori fold. When he showcased the project, he was awarded first place and got a prize of twenty-five thousand dollars.

His project was created to help design efficient, easy-to-deploy shelters that are cost-effective and strong. After the natural disasters that happened in Los Angeles and Florida, he was inspired to find a solution for natural disasters. T t H E e N ND
