Tara, 9 years old, Beats Adult in Chess

A nine year old called Tara beat an adult in chess. Tara has loved the game since she was four because of the knight’s L-shaped move, and she started to go to chess clubs. Now, when she plays with older people, the older person gets nervous. Her tournaments go by fast, and the adults, as she says, wonder about how she plays like this. Tara recently played in the 2025 Open Blitz Championship qualifier, and she was the top-performing girl. She got accepted to the women’s final. Tara admits she gets nervous sometimes when playing with adults, but when they actually start playing, she feels fine. She says that sometimes emotion comes into the game. For example, when you make a big move, it feels emotional. Also, when you make a bad move, you might feel sad, but if you keep playing confidently and ignore that mistake, there is a chance that you can win. Tara feels that chess is a mind game. Even though Tara loves chess, she doesn’t want to have a job that’s just chess. She wants to be a psychiatrist. However, she wants the job for her chess skills, too. Tara wants to read what her opponents next moves are. Her opponents get frustrated when they lose to a child. Tara’s parents support her chess playing and hired her a private tutor just for chess. Her dream is to become a grand-master at chess. She encourages other girls to try chess, too.
