Hamas and Israel have agreed to a ceasefire starting on October 13, 2025. Israel will release its Palestinian prisoners and Hamas will release Israeli hostages. This has been called a “first phase” of the ceasefire (according to BBC’s CBBC newsround).
The hostages will be handed to the Red Cross Charity in Gaza. They will be flown by Israeli planes to an Israeli base in Southern Israel. There, the hostages will be receiving a medical check performed by doctors before they can see their relatives and family.
Dozens of families were waiting to see and meet their relatives who have been prisoners of Hamas. The bodies of those who died while imprisoned will also be coming back home, as a part of the ceasefire agreement. Palestinian prisoners will be going back home by bus to see family, relatives, and friends.
