911 Service Restored
On Thursday, September 25, 2025, fiber optic lines owned and operated by AT&T were damaged, causing statewide outages in Louisiana and Mississippi. The outage lasted more than two hours, and emergency service calls did not go through in Louisiana and Mississippi during that time.
Mississippi’s state Emergency Management Agency had received reports from AT&T that they were responding to various fiber cuts, causing the damage. While investigating, there has been no evidence pointing towards sabotage. According to AT&T, third parties might have caused the outages. Although they are still investigating the cause, they can confirm that it was not sabotage.
While the outage lasted only two hours, the chaos spread like wildfire. An outrage occurred in Mississippi and Louisiana, as they had to use 10-digit numbers to contact emergency services. Eventually, they got back online within a couple of hours, and 911 service is now fully restored in Mississippi and Louisiana.
