Disney’s original series “Lilo and Stitch” has a new live action movie, featuring Maia Kealoha as Lilo and Chris Sanders as Stitch, and has many different reviews from everyone around the world. The live action is based off of Disney’s Lilo and Stitch, and it talks about the unlikely friendship between Lilo, a young, free-spirited Hawaiian girl, and Stitch, an evil, smart alien creature. I recently just watched it, and I feel like the live action could’ve done better, rating it a 3 stars out of 5.

First of all, I would only rate it a 3 out of 5 stars because the whole theme of the story basically changed. The original movie focused on the importance of family and sticking together hence the popular saying in the movie, “Ohana means family, and family means no one gets left behind.” But in the live action movie, the main message is that even though Ohana is important, it won’t help pay  the bills, giving the live version a more realistic mood. The new version also didn’t include a lot of important scenes from the original, like the ugly duckling story, which made stitch realize he wanted to be part of a family. They had (I would replace this with “The filmmakers”) also made Jumba, the alien who created stitch, the main villain, instead of captain Gantu, who was a huge obstacle in the original film. In the first movie, Jumba was an evil alien who had to get Stitch back, but near the end of the film, he changed completely and even stayed on earth with Lilo’s family.

Even though the movie could have been better, it also does a really good job portraying the characters, and all the mess Nani, Lilo’s sister, has to go through. In the live version, the house (whose house? Lilo’s? I would specify that here) looks really broken down and shabby, and it really shows how poor the character is. It also shows how rough life has been for Nani ever since their parents died. The live action Lilo is pretty accurate to the original, a troublesome, free-spirited child who just wants to be loved.

Overall, the movie was ok, but I think making the movie more realistic kind of changed the whole message the movie is trying to tell its audience, and got rid of its original “Ohana means family” theme. I don’t believe live action (I would add “movie” here) could be better than the original, but this live action was actually very good, (I would change this to “even if”) maybe it’s not 100 percent accurate, it’s definitely way more realistic and emotional, and I would recommend this movie for people who prefer a realistic yet heartwarming rendition with a happy ending.
