Save the Animals!
There are lots of animals in the world. Lots of them are most likely critically endangered. Some animals are extinct in the wild like a Guam King Fisher. Some species don’t even have to worry about extinction. Even if an animal is not close to being endangered, we should keep their habitats safe. Today, we’ll talk about what you can do to help the California Least Tern which is a critically endangered species. The California Least Tern is one of the last breeds of the Least Tern birds. There used to be about 600 of them left. Due to breeding sites, there are about 6,000 now. The Least Tern breeds in the Pacific ocean and can be seen in San Frisco and north of Mexico.
How can save their habitat? Here are three easy and simple things that you should be doing everyday. The first thing you can do is to not litter. If you see litter, pick it up. You can help by signing up on programs to clean up beaches.
If you have a dog, another thing you can do is to keep your dog(s) on a leash at beaches. This can help keep the birds safe and not threatened.
Lastly, don’t disturb them. A California Least Tern has a yellow beak, a black head with white or gray areas, and a gray and white body and tail. If you live in California or Mexico and you see one, don’t go after it. Leave it alone. You shouldn’t do that to any animals. If you can follow these three easy steps, you’re protecting the California Least Tern and their habitat. -Clarissa Schroeder
