The Promised Neverland Book 1 Review
Abby A
Imagine your only 11, running away from “home” and getting chased by both demons and beasts. Demons are controlled however, beasts are not. The Promised Neverland is about kids ages 5-11 running away from a place called “home” while getting chased by demons and beasts. The Promised Neverland is a book written by Kaiu Shirai and the art is drawn by Posuka Demizu.
Kaiu Shirai is a pen name for a Japanese manga artist and writer who is most famous for the series called “The Promised Neverland.” Because Kaiu Shirai is just a pen name, no one knows who he really is, or what his birth year is. he has made about The Promised Neverland is:
“None of us know if our decisions are right or wrong in the moment. That’s why what’s important is what you do after a decision. Your effort to make the decision you made correct. Even if the decision you made brings unfavorable results, what can you do from there? Continuing to strive anyway is what’s important. If decisions are everything, life is just one big gamble. Believe in what you’ve decided, Emma. And no matter what results from it, keep going.”
This quote is my favorite because of how he encourages Emma, one of the main characters, to keep going even if the results wasn’t what she wanted or expected.
The Promised Neverland is about three kids who try to escape what they’ve called “home” for the past 11 years, with all their siblings without alerting “Mom”. However, their “home” wasn’t really a home, it was a farm, a farm growing kids to feed to the demons. They were sent out based on how smart they were, the youngest they could ship a child away is when they’re 6. “Mom” keeps the smarter children until they’re at least 12 because the smarter brain you have, the better it tastes to demons. “Mom” is the demons “minion” and she helps take care of the kids before they are fed to the demons. The kids get sent off to be eaten based on how smart they are. However, no matter how smart you are, you will be sent off either way once you hit 12 years old.
The Promised Neverland has been a fun read so far, and it is the most creative type of horror book I’ve ever read. I watched one season of the anime really long ago and reading this again brought back so many memories. The book itself is amazing. I believe that this book is amazing because it has intense parts, and cliffhangers (literally!) that make reader want to read more and more. I would rate it a 9/10 and definitely would recommend it if you like really long stories. I
