K-pop Demon Hunters Review
The amazing movie from Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, K-pop Demon Hunters, is a Great family movie to watch. Though the title may sound childish or only for Koreans or K-pop lovers, do not be deceived. The whole movie is in English, though with some Korean parts in the songs. The soundtrack has amazing, catchy songs that also explore feelings and friendship through them. I would rate this movie a 5 out of 5.
While watching K-pop demon hunters, you will experience both breathtaking songs, and an astonishing story plot. It’s set in a world of humans and demons, with humans living on the land while the demons are in the underworld. Every generation, 3 girls take on the role of singing and performing to seal the honmoon, which is the border between the human and demon realm. The main character, Rumi, is one of the 3 girls; they call themselves HUNTRI/X, though they are also demon hunters, which could explain the name.
Rumi’s mother also sang and performed before her death. After that Celine, Rumi’s mother’s friend takes care of Rumi. Into the movie, you will start to feel a connection with Rumi, she’s a half-demon, though also a hunter, and she spends time trying to hide her demonic patterns. This movie can also make you feel sadness, such as when Jinu sacrifices himself.
Aside from the storyline, it also features amazing and breathtaking songs. These songs are by the Saja Boys or HUNTR/X, though the Saja Boys have 2 concerts, one in their demon place, and one outside on the sidewalk. The voice actors of these three girls have exceptional vocals and harmonies. Many of these songs have catchy parts that make you want to sing along. In addition to the impressive music, the lyrics tell a story of their own. It describes all of their struggles and hardships, but also who they are and what defines them. Through their music, the girls ensure their voices are heard as they assert themselves to the world.
Some examples of those emotional songs are: Free, voiced by Rumi and Jinu to express their love for each other, and this is what it sounds like; Rumi accepts who she is and embraces it with Mira and Zoey. Though my favorite song is Takedown, because of its catchy sounds that make you want to sing along.
As you finish up this movie, you will have a mind full of breathtaking songs and an incredible story plot.
