Tadej Pogačar and Pauline Ferrand-Prévot win Tour de France
On July 27, 2025, Tadej and Pauline won the Tour de France.
Tour de France is a difficult bike race held in France, where the world’s top bikers race for days on a dangerous course through the mountainous northern region of France. Tadej Pogačar won the men’s race for the fourth time in his career, and Pauline Ferrand-Prévot won the women’s race.
Each day of the race, teams of bikers ride through different parts of the mountain in sections of the race called ‘stages’. Every stage can have a different winner, and when the race is finished, the total time for each biker through each individual stage is added up. The person who wins the Tour de France with the best time is given a yellow shirt.
Pogačar, a 26 year old from Slovenia, won the 2,052 mile men’s race (3,302 kilometers) with a time of 76 hours and 32 seconds, four minutes and 24 seconds faster than the runner up, Jonas Vingegaard.
This was Pogačar’s fourth win, and the fifth time Pogačar and Vingegaard took first and second places, respectively. Pogačar is now tied with Chris Froome from the UK in wins, with both having four wins each.
In addition to the men’s race, the women’s Tour de France this year was 726 miles 1,169 kilometers) and was won by Pauline Ferrand-Prévot, a 33 year old from France who won the race with a time of 29 hours, 54 minutes and 24 seconds. She is the first French person to win the Tour de France since the 1980s, and was 3 minutes 42 seconds faster than Demi Vollering of the Netherlands, who won the tour in 2023.
The Tour de France is held annually, and the 2026 edition of the race will be held in Barcelona, Spain.
