Though the first waves hit the California shorelines around 1 a.m., there was no severe damage reported. Officials from regions like Hawaii, California, and Chile warned people to stay away from shores and beaches until they ensure there is no danger.
The tsunami already hit the coastlines of Hawaii around 7 a.m. Tuesday and some parts of Alaska.
The reasons why people receive alarms is because “An 8.8-magnitude earthquake struck off Russia’s eastern coast in shallow waters of the North Pacific on Tuesday morning, causing aftershocks and damage to structures in Russia,” and if the magnitude could be confirmed, the earthquake could be one of the biggest recorded.
Luckily, the tsunami didn’t cause much damage in the US. However in Russia, it caused some cliff faces to fall into the sea and damaged some building structures.”Videos from the area showed homes and other structures shaking and coastal buildings awash in seawater. The Russian geophysics service said in a statement that a volcano in the Kamchatka peninsula began erupting after the quake.”But there are no injuries or deaths caused.
