Gergen, not only a trusted adviser to four U.S. presidents, was also an educator and journalist.
He was born in Durham, N.C., in 1942, and then graduated from Yale 21 years later. He also earned a law degree from Harvard. got his first job in the White House, he served for 3 years of the Navy.
Furthermore, his career spans from an advisor to an educator. He served in the White House during both Republican and Democratic administrations, commanding bipartisan respect. He then came to Harvard and co-founded the Kennedy School’s Center for Public Leadership, where he spent more than 20 years training the next generation of public leaders.
David was frequently praised for crafting debate lines and hardline voices. When he appointed Gergen as public service professor in 1999, then-HKS Dean Joseph Nye said, “David has always had an old-fashioned view of public service that goes beyond partisanship, and I think that’s what we stand for as well.”
Furthermore, David wrote two books: Eyewitness to Power: The Essence of Leadership,
Nixon to Clinton. In his forward-looking Hearts Touched with Fire: How Great Leaders Are Made.
Michael Horn, who is a close friend of David, says that he gained so much impact and lessons about life from David.
