STORM FLORIS BRINGS DESTRUCTION TO U.K. ON MONDAY
by: Sophia Wang
The Met Office has added an amber warning to the weather warning for most of Scotland when Storm Floris hits the UK.
The Amber warning will last from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM on Monday. The heavy storm can cause disruption and delays on roads and railways. The Yellow warning in Northern England and Northern Ireland lasts from 6:00 AM Monday until midnight. Amber warnings in the U.K. can mean heavy rain, high risk of transportation, damage to trees and buildings, power outages, and a high risk of floods.
Disruptive winds in Scotland on Monday can topple trees and block roads, and flooding downhill can push cars over. Amber warning appears over Glasgow, Edinburgh, and the Highlands. Yellow warning signals cover Yorkshire, Humber, North Wales. North West England, North East England, Northern Ireland , and all of Scotland, including Orkney and Shetland Islands, are also within the yellow warning.
The Met Office names storms when they have the potential to cause damage and harm. Named storms occur more in late Autumn and Winter, but can still take place in the summer. Storm Floris is dangerous. It will cause disruption and damage to the United Kingdom. Know where to take cover, and have watchful eyes for the dark clouds above.
