Corrupt Officials of Ukraine Exposed
Last Saturday, August 2, President Zelensky and two agencies arrested several individuals who were caught intentionally inflating the prices of war technology by 30% in Ukraine to reap more earnings.
This is concerning for the government because out of the individuals, one was a member of the Parliament, and the others were National Guard members. and will, in the long term, deteriorate how the war goes. If this goes on, the people of Ukraine won’t be able to trust the government anymore; therefore, they won’t be on the same page with each other and will have many disputes.
One of the first concerns was that President Zelensky sought to influence the independence of the two anti-corruption agencies. He later passed a bill to restore their independence after all the criticism he received about taking it away after the general public showed displeasure of him trying to obtain power over what was investigated for corruption or not, if he obtained the dependency of the agencies.
So far, there have been four arrests, whose identities were undisclosed to not stir trouble and to not cause major distrust in certain parts of the government system. And also, because of this, President Zelensky said: “I am grateful to the anti-corruption agencies for their work. It is important that anti-corruption institutions operate independently, and the law passed on Thursday guarantees them all the tools necessary for a real fight against corruption.” This shows that he was serious about the adjustments he made to the bills in regard of the agencies.
Zelensky, with all of these adjustments, shows that he is willing to stop the corruption within the country, even with all the war going on.
