Women’s Euro 2025 Tournament Kicks Off
Switzerland will host the 2025 Women’s Euro Cup, which will take place from July 2nd through July 27th. Women’s football teams from all over Europe will come to compete to determine the ultimate winner. Due to COVID-19, the previous tournament had been postponed to 2022. However, the 2025 Women’s Euro marks the return of the usual four-year cycle.
There will be 16 teams competing, separated into four groups of four teams. Teams will play other countries that are part of their group, earning three points for each win, one for each draw, and none for losses. The two teams with the most points will then advance to the quarter-finals. 31 matches will be played in eight different stadiums until the winner of this quadrennial competition is decided.
The tournament will take place in eight different cities located in Switzerland. Since this country does not have an official capital, its largest cities, Zurich and Bern (the government’s main base city), will be hosting some of the games instead.
The starting game will kick off in Thun and will finish in St Jakob-Park, Basel. Other Swiss cities hosting games include Geneva, St Gallen, Lucerne, and Sion.
A few of the best teams in Europe will be making an appearance, including Spain, England, and Germany.
England, the Euro 2022 champion, returns to defend its title, facing off against Wales, who is competing in an international tournament for the first time. These neighboring countries have a complicated history, which adds tension now that they’re in the same group and must compete against each other.
Some tough competition will be posed by Aitana Bonmatí. The midfielder playing for Spain won the Ballon d’Or last year, the top footballing prize given to the best male and female players in the world.
Fans cheer on their teams as they get ready to compete for the title of the 2025 Women’s Euro champion this summer.
