The Summer I Turned Pretty Review

Jenny Han’s TV series, The Summer I Turned Pretty, is highly recommended for anyone interested in family drama, romantic tensions, and supporting a team. It is a great show to watch anytime, but especially enjoyable during the summer since that is when the show is set. Even though this show is one of my favorites, it is still not the best show I’ve ever watched, which is why I would rate it a four out of five stars.
This series is mainly engaging due to its relatable scenes. Many teenagers or even adults find it similar to their own lives. The realism allows the audience to be invested and believe in what is happening. Along with the setting, the characters and plot are also something audiences can relate to. The many instances when the main character, Belly, likes a boy are incredibly normal feelings. Teenage girls all over the world experienced this kind of feeling and are familiar with it when watching. Other than love, many family dynamics occur throughout the shows that might emulate real family dynamics. A main event that occurs is when Susannah, mother of the main brothers in the show, dies due to cancer. She had fought cancer before, but this time she did not beat it and lost the battle. The pain and worry felt by the people around Susannah can be understood by many other families that have gone through or are going through this type of traumatic experience.
Aside from relatability, a lot of romantic tension occurs during the entire series. In the show, the two Fisher brothers are both in love with Belly while she is stuck on whom to choose. As the tension builds, so does the interest of the audience. Many people are extremely invested in what will happen next, watching and watching until the end. The two brothers, Jeremiah and Conrad, have different personalities and ways of treating Belly, which the audience turned into two teams. Many people who watch the show have a side that they support and who they think Belly deserves to be with. The two sides of the argument are either Team Jeremiah or Team Conrad, referring to the boy the audience wants to see end up with Belly. When watching the show, audiences can root for whoever as the plot progresses.
From the plot twists and similarities to our lives, The Summer I Turned Pretty is a must-watch. .
