Dinosaur Adventure at Museum
In June, Kaylee and Sophia went to the American Museum of Natural History in New York to celebrate Kaylee’s birthday. Kaylee had a huge smile on her face when they saw sparkling gems, glowing minerals, ancient mummies, and even an enormous Blue whale hanging from the ceiling. But what Kaylee loved the most was the dinosaur exhibit.
Inside, there were all different kinds of dinosaur skeletons, including towering Tyrannosaurus rex, long-necked Apatosaurus, horned Triceratops, and even smaller, bird-like dinosaurs like Velociraptor. Kaylee ran straight to the T-rex fossils and stood in awe. “Wow,” she whispered, staring up at the enormous teeth and claws. She called Sophia over to see it too.
While Kaylee was looking at the T-rex, Sophia noticed a shiny red button near the display. Big, bold black letters screamed: ‘DO NOT PRESS.’ But Sophia didn’t notice the warning and “click!” she pressed the button.
Suddenly, the ground began to rumble. “What is happening?” Kaylee shouted.
“I don’t know,” said Sophia. “I just pressed this red button. Was I not supposed to?”
Kaylee cried. “You definitely weren’t supposed to! It makes the T-Rex come to life!”.
The girls watched in shock as the T-rex’s bones started to glow brightly and change colors. The skeleton turned a sickly green and brown and then started to move! A museum worker rushed in. “The only way to stop it is with Dino Dust. It can turn the T. rex back into a fossil!” He added, “But I forgot which shelf I stored it on in the fossil storage room.”
If they didn’t act fast, the T. rex would destroy everything. So the girls sprinted toward the fossil storage room, without wasting a second. They split up and searched every shelf they could find. Shelf one, shelf two… Finally, on shelf seven, Kaylee found the container labeled Dino Dust.
Kaylee read the instructions: “Must be sprinkled within 10 feet.” The girls came up with a plan. Sophia will distract the T-rex while Kaylee gets the right spot. Sophia pulled out a dark green yo-yo and started swinging it in big circles. She shouted to get the dinosaur’s attention. Kaylee took a deep breath, stepped forward until she was 10 feet away and threw the dust into the air.
A blinding light lit up the room. When it faded, the T-rex stopped moving and it was once again a regular fossil. The friends high-fived, cheering and laughing. Kaylee let out a huge sigh of relief.
But then, “Kaylee, wake up!” Kaylee opened her eyes, her heart still racing, only to find Sophia standing over her giggling. “I have been trying to wake you up for ages!” Sophia said. Still feeling confused, Kaylee asked, “Sophia, have you ever pressed a big red button in the museum before?” “Of course not! Why would I do that?” Sophia raised an eyebrow. Kaylee gave a faint smile, her gaze drifting briefly. “No particular reason,” she replied quietly, almost to herself.
