Toys have been bringing happiness to children around the world for centuries. They are fun and entertaining, also bringing kids together and socializing. But which one is the best? Here are some very popular toys from back in the day.
1) Lego
Lego was created in Denmark by Ole Kirk Christiansen in 1932. Lego sells millions of sets each year, making it a very successful company.
2) Hula hoops, tops, marbles
These simple games have been around for a long time, some of them dating back to 2000 B.C.E. These toys can be played in a lot of ways. Different countries have unique rules for them.
3)Rubik’s Cube
Solving a Rubik’s Cube requires a lot of skill. You need to have good problem-solving, math, and logic skills. It was invented by a Hungarian professor called Erno Rubik in 1974. Over 500 million of these cubes have been sold worldwide, making it the bestselling puzzle toy.
4)Barbie
Over one billion Barbie dolls have been sold worldwide since 1959. It was invented by an American inventor named Ruth Handler. More than 350,000 dolls have been sold in the first year alone. Millions of Barbies are sold each year.
5) Monopoly
Monopoly, one of the most popular board games in history, began as the Landlord’s Game in 1904, created and patented by American feminist Lizzie Magie. Although often credited to Charles Darrow, who released his version in 1935, over 250 million copies have been sold since then.
6) Tamagotchis
Tamagotchis are virtual pets first released in Japan in 1996 and globally in 1997. These egg-shaped devices became popular among kids in the 1990s and have recently made a comeback, especially with Gen Z.
7) Furby
Furby was a toy created by Dave Hampton and Caleb Chung, which became a hit in the late ’90s, selling over 40 million units in its first three years. Known for their infrared eyes that let them communicate, the interactive robotic pets gained popularity and even appeared on shows like The Simpsons.
8) Nintendo Game Boy
Before the Nintendo Switch, the Game Boy was a handheld console that everybody wanted. Released in Japan in 1989 and in Europe in 1990, it revolutionized gaming by letting people play games like Tetris, Super Mario, and Pokémon anywhere they want.
