New Barbie Doll Features Type 1 Diabetes

Mattel, Inc. announced on July 8th, 2025, that they would introduce a new Barbie doll with type 1 diabetes to promote inclusion for people with type 1 diabetes, so they feel more confident.
Barbie dolls with other medical conditions have also been made, including a blind Barbie and one with Down Syndrome, where you have limited brain capacity.
“Introducing a Barbie doll with type 1 diabetes marks an important step in our commitment to inclusivity and representation,” said Krista Berger, Senior Vice President of Barbie and Global Head of Dolls. “Barbie helps shape children’s early perceptions of the world, and by reflecting medical conditions like T1D, we ensure more kids can see themselves in the stories they imagine and the dolls they love.”
The doll features a Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM), an insulin pump, and a blue polka-dot outfit. The job of the CGM is to keep track of blood sugar levels. The insulin pump will then receive the information, calculate how much insulin is needed, and pump that amount of insulin. The doll wears a blue polka dot top and a matching skirt. The circle print and color blue are symbols that represent diabetes awareness.
The UK supermodel Lila Moss, who also has type 1 diabetes, was the first to see the new doll. She was happy to see the technology she used featured in the doll.
She said, “I think it is really important to embrace this technology because it makes living with diabetes so much easier and more practical and I think it is important to embrace these imperfections and having them, not hiding them.”
Good work. You need a conclusion
