Trump Introduces Travel Bans Against Immigration
President Trump has imposed a ban on certain countries from traveling to the United States- these countries are: Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen. Trump applied this ban because he wants America to be safe, and foreigners to stay away from threatening the U.S. national security.
This is the second time Trump has implemented an immigration ban, the first time back in 2017 when he was president the first time. Thousands of people gathered at airports and protested against the initial ban. In 2021, when Joe Biden became president, he removed this act. However, this new presidency gives Trump the opportunity to reinstate it, in a new format.
The 2025 travel ban has some exceptions, like dual citizens, who are citizens of two different countries, and athletes who come to the US to compete in sporting events.
Some people have reacted by asking this decision to be challenged in court. Human rights advocates have also been involved. Amnesty International USA described it as “discriminatory, racist, and downright cruel.” There have also been reactions from some of the countries that Trump has restricted. Venezuela’s Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello warned that “being in the United States is a great risk for anyone, not just for Venezuelans.”
