On July 26, 2024, in Deadpool and Wolverine, a TVA guard told Deadpool that Wolverine was the only “good thing to come out of Canada,” after which Wade Wilson promptly drilled him in the face with a human bone.
On the contrary, Canadian hockey is a close second. The ongoing battle of Alberta is, perhaps, most indicative of this claim. The most recent installment of this decades long rivalry is the recent Oilers and Flamers game on Lake Louise.
That could be subject to change, however. What if we put the battle of Alberta, right in Canada? Specifically in Lake Louise, which is perfect for a Lake Tahoe-style game, like one between the Oilers and the Flamers.
Not only is Lake Louise one of the most breathtaking places on the planet, but, again, it fits the “Lake-Theme” near perfectly. Even better, the NFL has already considered games at Lake Louise. The NFL has considered moving games cross-continent, but the only problem there would be the Canadian rules about signage, and construction laws for something like a stadium would be very strict.
But c’mon, Canada. Hockey is practically the first thing people think of when they hear about Canada, right behind maple syrup and moose.
Steve Mayer, the man behind many NFL games, stated that such a game could be possible, and that he hoped that it was possible.
“Lake Tahoe was unique because we used private property, building on the golf course,” Mayer says. “(But) in every one of these games that we do, there’s a fair amount of red tape to work around. We always feel like there are clever and creative ways to put any event on. … Yes, there’s red tape involved, but there are also some of these locations and landmarks that would give anything to have a special event come to their world. So sometimes they’re also very cooperative in getting some of these things done.”
